A downloadable game for Windows

This game was made for the game jam  "A Game By Its Cover 2023"

Controls:

  • Select: WASD or arrow keys
  • Interact: ENTER

Goal:

Collect at least 1 royal ingredient at the end of each area and then challenge the king in the castle to become a certified Master Bagel Chef.

Description:

Join Loxy's quest as she faces her fears in search of the finest ingredients to achieve her dream — becoming a MASTER BAGEL CHEF!

To start the certification in front of the king you first need 4 Royal Ingredients to be allowed to enter.

You defeat enemies by feeding them so much you can move past them or by feeding them the flavor they like. If you take too long the enemy will get too annoyed and chase you back to town.

You can select your current deck from all your cards in the town.

Game Jam Premise:

A Game By Its Cover is an annual game jam about turning the fictional cartridge art of the My Famicase Exhibition into the real thing. For this game specifically the cartridge "Bagel Quest" by Stephen Kissel was chosen.

Special thanks to Stephen Kissel for allowing me to use his original cartridge design as inspiration for this game

Disclaimer:

Unfortunately I misjudged the end time of the jam. So I had to cut some features and wasn't able to fix some bugs. The main gameplay loop is working though. I plan to revisit this project to get it to the point I want it at.

Exciting to see another take on Bagel Quest. I really enjoyed the game, but ran into some bugs (such as mentioned by the other comment). I hope to see you return to this in the future as I'd love to play it more.

The game is cool.

I like the presentation, the gameplay loop and the two different ways to get through an enemy.

There might be a bug preventing you from continuing after you get back to the deck screen either by being defeated or by defeating the boss of a zone, you're losing control, or maybe there's actually a way and I did not figure it out.

Thanks for sharing, I'd probably be at least intrigued by a bigger version of the game.
